My “wild” story began on July 30, 1971 when I was condemned to hell in San Antonio, Texas… and no, not because I was born a Texan – that’s God’s Country! I say that because even though I’m grateful to be born and experience life, I’m incapable of being perfect and the Bible explains that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Even if I tried to be perfect, God says that “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” which is what I think of when we talk about our bear and mascot, “Dirty Money” (which is an entire conversation all by itself). I now realize that for a long time I was just goin’ through the motions, a happy-go-lucky “good” guy, tryin’ to get it right but still headed in the wrong direction. I was turned around and saved by God’s grace and love through Christ when I surrendered and believed on March 24, 1994. I used to put an exclamation point at the end of that sentence but now I’ve come to realize at the ripe old age of “15″, with all of the sin and pain that I’ve caused even since that day, my emotions are real but incredibly deceiving… and I’m so touchy-feely-metro that I should wear muscle shirts (anything without sleeves!) Understand? If not, hang in there, my humor is a little off too…
My point is this: No matter my feelings or your feelings, the Bible specifically tells us God first loved us. And that is a period… a fact. No matter what you may think or feel about that, no matter what you’ve done to screw things up, God’s wild love for you will never change. In fact, he wanted to make that so clear that He allowed his only son, Jesus, to be murdered and even worse, to take on every sin anyone had ever done and ever will do. He was then literally separated from his Father to take our sins to hell and conquer it. God resurrected him to conquer death as well and they reunited three days later which caused that incredible thing to happen… the period. Yeah, an exclamation for sure, just as that day in 1994 was my most exciting and celebrated day, but here – the duration of my life, the long haul, the day-to-day “roller coaster” life with it’s question marks – I now know that “this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” A few verses later in 1 John 4, “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.” We know and rely on the love God has for us. Period. Fact. Truth… Hope.
So this is supposed to be my “bio” but honestly it might as well be my “obit” if my life isn’t about Jesus… and if you can’t experience my bio in person and me experience yours as well – in other words, I don’t want to be an internet play toy, although there will be some of that of course… I want us to live love and do life together! “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. (not hatin’ on the sistas – you’re included too!) If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”
Jason opened his house to allow guys that could use some help out of their pit and it soon became a home filled with men who are all about the love and grace of Jesus, loving with actions and in truth. No, we’re far from perfect and some of things you hear or see might surprise you or even cause temporary paralysis, but just keep a paper bag close and stay buckled up… you’ll be fine. And I don’t say this lightly, I truly hope you’ll interact with us here and in person if possible and we can seriously do life together, showin’ the world true love which again isn’t “…that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins”. In my opinion… THIS is the definiton of “wild”. So when you think of pastorsgonewild.tv, yeah it’s crazy fun because there’s not a better time than living for God, but I hope your first thought is… wild, that God loved me first. Yeah, I’m smellin’ a tasty merinade pourin’ on… let’s simmer in that!
